Y’all…it is less than 2 weeks until the end of school! I can’t believe it!
But, good news , that means we are so close to kicking off our 4-H summer programs! See below for dates and details!
Our first major event is Cloverleaf Camp for our 4th-6th graders at Rock Eagle 4-H Center June 4-8.
The following week, June 11-15 is the first annual livestock skills camp and contest hosted by our office. See our previous blog post for details and entry form.
June 22-24 is State Council weekend for current 8th-12th graders. More details will come later in our next blog post.
Our Lake Winnie rewards trip for those who earned 50 or more Bulldog Bucks this year will be on Friday, June 29. Those 4-H’ers that are eligible will receive more information in the mail from Ms. Becky.
July 2-6 will be a big week of camp, with our Marine Resources Camp and Senior Camp participants gone all week!
Our high school tent camping trip will be July 15-16; cost is $50. Please contact Mrs. Allie if you’re interested in going.
Ms. Becky will be leading our Christmas in July participation on July 19, 20, and 23, so let her know if you are wanting to participate in this annual service project.
4-H State Congress is July 24-27 and then the Gordon County 4-H Awards Ceremony is Monday, July 30. County Council Officer Retreat is July 31 and then it’s back to school time!
Whew, what a packed summer!
Also, Gordon County 4-H is NOT attending the following events as a group, but you are welcome to attend as an individual or as a family! Let Ms. Allie know if you have questions or would like to register for any of these events.
4-H Day at Stone Mountain – Tuesday, June 19. Park attractions are open 10:30 AM to 8:00 PM and the laser show begins at 9:30 p.m. An all day pass is $19.98 and a meal voucher is $10.50; processing fee is $10 for the total group order. Must register for 4-H price by May 30. The 4-H emblem will be a part of the laser show!
4-H Knight at Medieval Times – Saturday, July 14 at 5:00 PM. 4-H is receiving a substantial discount at $29.95 per ticket which includes the show (tournament), wonderful food, a pre-show presentation featuring the falcon and care and training of the horses, a special Medieval Times pin and an opportunity to meet the cast!
Georgia Cooperative Council Youth Leadership Conference – July 16-20 in Covington, GA. The purpose of the 5-day conference is to build and enhance teen leadership skills and for participants to learn the role cooperatives play in the communities they serve. The leadership event is also designed to promote teamwork through a series of exercises, training and presentations. Open to youth who are rising 10th, 11th, or 12th grade students, or 2018 high school graduates that have not yet begun college. For 4-H sponsorship, please complete this application and submit it by June 20.
4-H Day at the Atlanta History Center – Thursday, July 19 at 9:30 AM. $6 registration fee allows you to tour the Atlanta History Center, learn about Atlanta and Georgia history, visit the Swan House, historic farm, gardens, and featured exhibits. You can also participate in the exhibit fair to share your project, with prizes awarded to top three exhibitors in 4-H Demonstrations, Project Animals, and Other. To apply for the exhibit fair, you must apply using this form and registration fees are covered for those selected. Applications are selected on a rolling basis, but are due no later than June 8. You will know by no later than June 20 if you were selected.
Poultry Science Open House – Friday, July 20. All rising high school freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors are welcome to attend this FREE event to learn about exotic breeds, disease necropsy, processing, anatomy/physiology, hatching/embryology, and career/education opportunities. Lunch is provided, but you must register at this website by July 13.
