{"id":270,"date":"2017-07-09T16:12:00","date_gmt":"2017-07-09T20:12:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/gacaa\/?p=270"},"modified":"2017-07-09T16:14:36","modified_gmt":"2017-07-09T20:14:36","slug":"greetings-from-salt-lake-city-utah","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/gacaa\/2017\/07\/greetings-from-salt-lake-city-utah\/","title":{"rendered":"Greetings from Salt Lake City, Utah"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Many GACAA members are arriving at Salt Lake City and attending the 102nd Annual Meeting and Professional Improvement conference of the National Association of County Agricultural Agents.\u00a0 I arrived in Utah Friday afternoon and have\u00a0enjoyed some of the sites before the meeting started.<\/p>\n<p>The first thing I noticed about Utah is that it is hot!\u00a0 Buts is a &#8220;dry heat&#8221; as they say.\u00a0 Be sure to keep your self hydrated while you are here this week.\u00a0 Between the heat and the 4,262 feet elevation above sea level, you need to drink lots of water.\u00a0 Also, if you venture out, be sure to where sunscreen and a hat.<\/p>\n<p>On Saturday, my husband Henry Dorough, Alabama Extension agent, and my self had the opportunity to go to Temple Square.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.templesquare.com\">https:\/\/www.templesquare.com<\/a>\/\u00a0 This is the home and headquarters of the Mormon religion.\u00a0 You can tour the Tabernacle, the visitors center, the grounds, and the Beehive house at no charge.\u00a0 Tours are available as well.\u00a0 Be sure to go to the Tabernacle at 12:00 pm each day to hear the organ recital.\u00a0 This morning, we had the chance to attend the Mormon Tabernacle choir.\u00a0 They perform every Sunday morning at 9:30 am.<\/p>\n<p>On Saturday night, we attended the VIP dinner as Henry is a NACAA past president.\u00a0\u00a0Our two tour busses headed for the mountains and escaped the heat for\u00a0a\u00a0few hours.\u00a0 We had a bbq\u00a0supper at\u00a0Spruces campground located at Big Cottonwood Canyon in the Wasatch Mountain Range.\u00a0\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitsaltlake.com\/listings\/Big-Cottonwood-Canyon\/55175\/\">https:\/\/www.visitsaltlake.com\/listings\/Big-Cottonwood-Canyon\/55175\/<\/a>\u00a0 We then drove up to Silver Lake and had a easy hike around the lake.\u00a0 We enjoyed seeing wildflowers, mule deer, and moose.\u00a0 We happened upon a young bull moose eating right on the trail and then a cow and young bull grazing on the other side of the lake.\u00a0 They were very use to seeing people and totally ignored the tourists getting up close and taking their pictures.\u00a0 Beautiful, pristine mountains and cool fresh air was\u00a0enjoyed by the whole group.<\/p>\n<p>Today, the meeting kicks off with a welcome to Utah dinner and opening ceremonies with our Georgia state flag\u00a0being walked across the stage.\u00a0 Also tonight is the first of two nights of hospitality rooms where we get to meet those who are running for NACAA office and see who can out do who in food and drinks they offer.\u00a0 We have two candidates for secretary and treasurer this year.\u00a0 Those positions will be voted on Tuesday at the Delegate session.<\/p>\n<p>I will blog again tomorrow with more updates of what we are experiencing in Utah.\u00a0 If you are in Utah, please email me if you are presenting, displaying a poster, getting an award, etc. so I can be sure to include it in upcoming blogs this week while in Utah.\u00a0 <a href=\"mailto:pjburke@uga.edu\">mailto:pjburke@uga.edu<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Many GACAA members are arriving at Salt Lake City and attending the 102nd Annual Meeting and Professional Improvement conference of the National Association of County Agricultural Agents.\u00a0 I arrived in Utah Friday afternoon and have\u00a0enjoyed some of the sites before the meeting started.
