Looking for a fun, family-friendly way to celebrate pollinators and get involved in citizen science? Mark your calendar for the Great Southeast Pollinator Census<\/strong> on Saturday, August 22, 2026<\/strong> with multiple free events happening in Fulton County!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hosted by Fulton County\u2019s Master Gardener Extension Volunteers (MGEVs), these counting events are a great way to learn about the bees, butterflies, flies, and other pollinators that keep our gardens growing. Whether you\u2019re an experienced gardener or an enthusiastic beginner, the census is a relaxed, hands-on way to connect with nature and your community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Attending a pollinator census counting event is a great way to contribute to valuable research, learn about beneficial pollinators, meet Master Gardeners, and have fun!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

What to Expect<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

At each location, MGEVs will guide participants through a simple pollinator counting process\u2014no experience necessary! You\u2019ll learn how to observe and identify common pollinators while contributing real data to a regional effort. We’ll have:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • Kid-friendly activities and crafts<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Informational talks from local beekeepers<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Interactive demonstrations<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • A chance to explore beautiful demonstration gardens maintained by MGEVs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    It\u2019s a perfect event for families, garden clubs, or anyone curious about supporting pollinators. MGEVs will have all materials needed for you to participate. Just show up and have a good time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Why Participate?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

      Pollinators are essential for our food supply and our landscapes, but many species are under pressure. By spending just a few minutes observing flowers and counting visitors, you\u2019ll help researchers better understand pollinator populations across the Southeast. Data collected from the pollinator census helps inform research, policy, and state Pollinator Protection Plans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Plus, it\u2019s simply a fun day outside! You\u2019ll leave with new gardening tips, a better eye for pollinators, and inspiration for your own landscape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      These events are also a great opportunity to meet Fulton County\u2019s MGEVs and learn about the work they do to support UGA Extension. From leading workshops and maintaining demonstration gardens to sharing research-based horticulture advice, these volunteers play a huge role in helping our community grow greener, more pollinator-friendly spaces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
