Are you a small-scale vegetable farmer or homesteader interested in food safety? This introductory course may be for you!

The health benefits of eating fresh fruit and vegetables is well-supported by scientific evidence. However, an increasing (though still small) proportion of reported outbreaks of food-borne illness are traced to fresh produce. It’s crucial for farmers to use good food safety practices on the farm to reduce the likelihood of food-borne illnesses reaching consumers.

Our one-day course is an introduction to these good agricultural practices. Small-scale fruit and vegetable growers will learn skills necessary to identify safety concerns and build knowledge on certifications and resources from the UGA Department of Food Science & Technology.
