As you make your new year’s resolutions, keep the environment in mind. If you don’t know where to start, don’t worry! Read on for inspiration so that you can kick off 2020 as a more sustainable citizen.

The 3 R’s Reduce, Reuse, Recycle play a huge role in saving our environment. Reduce is listed first because it is the most important thing you can do to live a more sustainable lifestyle. 8 million tonnes of plastic are being dumped in the ocean each year. Personal care products are a major source of microplastics. While you are shopping, look for plastic- free facewash, makeup, deodorant and other care products in 2020.

Many supermarkets and stores offer their customers single- use plastic bags to carry their goods in. However, these bags are a major source of plastic pollution and end up harming the environment. By bringing your own reusable bag, you can decrease the amount of plastic waste produced.

Buy and eat locally. The convenience of supermarkets has changed how people think about food. Buying local reduces your carbon footprint. Less transportation and less packaging are required to get goods to the market, and you are supporting local business.

Try growing your own food in 2020. Plant a few seeds in a container, in your yard, or on your windowsill. You don’t need acres, a few square feet on a patio or in a window can provide enough space to grow herbs, fruits, and vegetables.

Try to recycle as much as possible. If your neighborhood or apartment complex does not offer a recycling service, find a drop off location.

Remember, with just a small effort you can make a large impact.
