In addition to traditional horse show classes, the Georgia 4-H State Horse Show also provides the opportunity for 4-Hers who are exhibiting or who are not exhibiting horses to take part in the week through participation in educational contests. These include method demonstrations, public speaking, drawing and painting contests, and photography. All exhibitors must be enrolled in and carrying out a 4-H Horse project and must be the person primarily responsible for the care of the horse, which teaches responsibility and self-motivation. The State 4-H Horse Show provides an opportunity for members to exhibit their project and receive input on their accomplishments. In order to compete, 4-H’ers are required to complete numerous entry requirements which include the Novice Horseman 4-H Horse Project manual, the first in a series of three manuals offered to document Horsemanship skills gained through the Georgia 4-H Horse Program.

Kate Whiting, Extension Specialist for Animal Science Programs, poses with Timothy Laszol after announcing that he placed 1st in the Cloverleaf Ranch Pleasure division.

This year’s contest was held May 31-June 3.
