Cut flowers is a multi-billion-dollar growth industry that is suitable for a small farm focus or a diversification option for larger growers. As land becomes more expensive and less available, indoor controlled environment and vertical farming in warehouses, greenhouses, or old storefronts offers opportunities to grow fresh produce in urban settings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
UGA Extension agents and specialists will teach the 8-session course. In addition, participants will have the opportunity to tour local farms on one Saturday during the course. Classes will be held at the Forsyth County Extension Office on Monday evenings, 7-9:30 p.m., from February 9 through March 30, 2026. The $75 course fee includes a course manual, program materials, and light snacks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" src=\"https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/forsyth\/files\/2025\/11\/High-tunnel-vegetable-farm_zoe-richardson-siD6uufCyt8-unsplash-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"A young man watering in a high tunnel greenhouse\" class=\"wp-image-2231\" srcset=\"https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/forsyth\/files\/2025\/11\/High-tunnel-vegetable-farm_zoe-richardson-siD6uufCyt8-unsplash-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/forsyth\/files\/2025\/11\/High-tunnel-vegetable-farm_zoe-richardson-siD6uufCyt8-unsplash-1024x684.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/forsyth\/files\/2025\/11\/High-tunnel-vegetable-farm_zoe-richardson-siD6uufCyt8-unsplash-768x513.jpg 768w, https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/forsyth\/files\/2025\/11\/High-tunnel-vegetable-farm_zoe-richardson-siD6uufCyt8-unsplash-1536x1026.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/forsyth\/files\/2025\/11\/High-tunnel-vegetable-farm_zoe-richardson-siD6uufCyt8-unsplash.jpg 1800w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>
As land becomes more expensive and less available, controlled environment farming offers options for urban areas.
