1+1 = 87 Polyphemous Caterpillars

Our polyphemous caterpillar eggs hatched on May 14th, about 10 days after they were laid.  They are incredibly tiny.

The majority hatched the first day, with stragglers for about 3 days.  We tried feeding them oak, dogwood, and rose.  The ones on the dogwood and rose didn’t seem too happy, so we moved them to oak after a day or two.  The first thing they eat is their eggshell, which must fill them up since the all sat for several hours before they started eating leaves.  We lost count after 50, but thing our total ended up around 80 caterpillars!
