Agriculture & Natural Resources Updates for Fannin & Gilmer Counties

The 2022 growing season is fast approaching and UGA Extension is looking forward to assisting Georgia’s commercial apple growers as the season progresses. To help get ready for another year, Gilmer County Extension is once again hosting the annual North Georgia Apple Production Meeting.

Some of the top Extension Specialists from the University of Georgia, North Carolina State University, and the University of Tennessee will be presenting on a variety of topics, all of which should be helpful to our area apple growers as they prepare for the 2022 production season.

The production meeting will be held on Friday, February 11th, at the Gilmer County Public Library in the downstairs meeting room from 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM.  The meeting is free and open to the public, but registration through the Extension office is encouraged so we can have an idea of how many attendees to expect. Please, arrive about 15 minutes before the meeting begins to secure your seat and sign in. We will begin the production meeting promptly at 10:00 am.

This year’s educational program includes speakers with a wide range of expertise. The meeting will have an emphasis on topics of importance such as food safety, as well as orchard management and production related topics such as weed, insect, and disease management. Pesticide recertification credit will be available at the end of the program for both private and commercial pesticide license holders.

Plan now to attend! Again, the meeting is free and open to the public, but we do ask that those who wish to attend to register by contacting us at the Gilmer County Extension office so we can account for the appropriate number of meals for lunch.

For more information, please contact the Gilmer County Extension office. You’re also welcome to contact County Agent, Ashley Hoppers, either at the office or by email at aahoppers@uga.edu.
