The shriveled, white thing sticking out the back is the old egg sac that the baby spiders on mom&#8217;s back came out of, probably fairly recently. Wolf spiders carry their egg sacs behind them, attached by some silk. When the babies hatch, they hitch a ride with mom until they are ready to venture off on their own. With a healthy batch of babies &#8211; like this seems to be &#8211; they will cover the female spider&#8217;s entire back, sometimes with just the eyes sticking out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wolf spiders are harmless, so no control should be needed.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This a small species of Wolf spider (Family Lycosidae).
