Dooly County has a few spaces available for 4-H Summer Camp for 4th, 5th and 6th grade 4-H’ers. This year we will be camping at Camp Burton on Tybee Island, GA from June 1-June 5.
Virtually anyone can attend camp at Camp Burton. For some 4-H’ers, summer camp is their only involvement in 4-H. Camp is open to all 5th and 6th graders, whether you attend a public school in the Dooly County School System, Fullington Academy, or if you are homeschooled.
We are offering camp scholarships this year. If you’re interested, call or come see me or Miss Darlene at the Extension Office.
I attended 4-H camp for several years as a 4-Her, and still have fond memories and close friends from those experiences. I’m looking forward to going to Tybee Island with our 4-Hers this year.
Camp is more than just a fun time! With science and social science as the foundation, Georgia 4-H summer camp provides 4-H youth experiences in understanding and navigating group dynamics, self-discovery, relationship building, practicing healthy personal habits and appreciation of the environment. Two of the four 4-H Essential Elements, Independence and Belonging, are interwoven in the programs for summer camp. 4-H youth have opportunities to experience responsibility and enhancement of social skills allowing them to co-exist and thrive with others in society through summer camp.
