The rain yesterday has gotten a few people talking about the possibility of target spot in cotton again this season. Last year Dooly County had a reasonably high occurrence of target spot and although Dr. Kemerait has not seen a case of target spot in the state yet, conditions are favorable right now, so you should be scouting for it.
Below is a link to the Target Spot Index. Use it to determine if a fungicide application is necessary to combat target spot on your crop.
If you think you have target spot, please contact the Dooly County Extension office so that we can confirm the disease. It can be very easy to mistake other leaf spot diseases for target spot in the field.
