Today the cyclone in the Gulf of Mexico was given the name Nestor making it a tropical storm.

Pam Knox, UGA Weather Network Director, advises: “At this time, there is no expectation that possible TS Nestor will develop into a strong hurricane (although it has a small chance of reaching minimal hurricane strength before landfall due to the warm Gulf water), so it won’t produce Michael-like damage. But it will still produce gusty winds and locally heavy rains and perhaps some small tornadoes, especially to the right of the path of the center of circulation. Southeast Georgia is the most likely to be affected, although the actual impacts will depend on the exact path the storm takes.”

The National Hurricane Center updated its expected forecast cone for the center of the storm today at 1p CDT. Its projecting a landfall time of 7a tomorrow morning and has the eye of Nestor passing over us here in Crisp Co sometime late afternoon – early tomorrow evening; see map below:

Its also estimated that 1-4 inches of rain could fall in our area. For more updates on this storm as it moves towards us please visit the tropical storm Nestor web page on the National Hurricane Center website here.

Thanks and please be safe as we weather another storm.

Best Wishes,

Joshua Grant
