Soil temps at 3:10 PM – Tuesday afternoon 3\/17\/26 at Sparks location<\/a>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Below are desired soil temps needed for corn, peanuts, cotton and soybean.  These temperatures need to be an average among several days without threat of colder temperatures in the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Corn<\/strong> at 2\u2033 soil depth should be 55 degrees minimum for 3 consecutive days.
Peanut <\/strong>at 4\u2033 soil depth should be consistent 68 degrees minimum.
Cotton<\/strong> at 2\u2033 soil depth should be consistent 65 degrees minimum.
Soybean <\/strong>at 2\u2033 soil depth should be consistent 68 degrees minimum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Don\u2019t get pushed into planting early or at an inappropriate time just because your neighbor is. Any cotton already in the ground, and there is some, is going to be punished by this cold and wet weather. In fact, planting anything for the next few days is a bad idea. Cold and wet beg for seed rot. Cold and wet beg for slow and uneven germination. Cold and wet beg for sluggish emergence. Planting in cold and wet is like carrying a sign that says, \u201cI like to re-plant\u201d. And yes, in-furrow fungicides address these issues, they are not enough.
