Floridian Aquifer Status

HERE is good information related to the Florida aquifer and its current status “A network of 15 wells maintained by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) is closely monitored to evaluate the condition of the Floridan Aquifer compared to drought metrics established by GAEPD.” Below are descriptions of status levels.

Providence Canyon.
I had the opportunity to visit Providence Canyon as part of an annual statewide county agent meeting last week. This was a cotton field over 150 years ago. Rows were formed with no attention to runoff and erosion. Today its Providence Canyon (a result of severe soil erosion) over in Stewart County. I had the privilege of knowing a retired farmer (living in downtown Morris, GA) who was paid by the government to plant a new plant (Kudzu) there to help prevent further erosion in the canyons.

Seed Variety Selections

UGA’s SWVT (statewide variety testing) is an extremely valuable tool for those trying to determine what varieties to plant. You’ll find 10 years worth of data related to variety performance. Click HERE for this information. Current years data may not be up as of this post (11/19/24) but should be soon.
