Cotton Jassid (Two Spotted Cotton Leafhopper)
This is a new insect. It first appeared in a okra patch about 3 wks. ago here in Cook County, and recently in a cotton field; was found in Georgia counties along the FLA border a week prior. It looks similar to the potato leafhopper in peanuts (not 3 cornered alpha hopper) but has two dots on end of its wings. Field trials are being conducted now to determine control. Here is more info on this insect from Dr. Phillip Roberts – UGA Cotton Insect Specialist.
