These comments are below.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The new label state that the products may <strong>ONLY<\/strong> be mixed, loaded, or applied by certified applicator who has successfully completed the <a href=\"https:\/\/usparaquattraining.com\"><strong>paraquat-specific training<\/strong> <\/a>before use<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>o Application \u201cunder the direct supervision\u201d of a certified applicator is <strong>NO LONGER<\/strong> allowed<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>o Training must be <strong>repeated every three years<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Syngenta recently received a label for their new formulation of paraquat sold under the trade name of Gramoxone 3SL (3 lb ai\/gal).\u00a0 As you may recall from a previous blog (March 10, 2019), many rules regarding the purchase, handling, and application of paraquat are changing.\u00a0 Most notably, all non-bulk paraquat products (with new labels) must adhere to closed-system packaging requirements set forth by the EPA&#8217;s Paraquat Dichloride Human Health Mitigation Decision by November 2020.\u00a0 Also, all paraquat applicators are required to complete an EPA-approved training module before applying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In my recent\ndiscussions with both Syngenta and AMVAC field personnel, there will still be\nsome of the older labeled paraquat formulations (2SL and 3SL) in the\nmarketplace for 2020 but these will disappear when supplies are exhausted.&nbsp; Thus, growers need to be very aware of the\nlabel requirements of the container(s) they have in their possession.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A couple of quick links\nfor you to review and share with your growers:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1) New Gramoxone 3SL label:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.syngenta-us.com\/current-label\/gramoxone_sl_3.0\">https:\/\/www.syngenta-us.com\/current-label\/gramoxone_sl_3.0<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\nhttps:\/\/www.epa.gov\/pesticide-worker-safety\/paraquat-dichloride-training-certified-applicators\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2) Current bulk handling systems already meet the new closed-system packaging requirements.\u00a0 A video of the new closed system for 2.5 gallon containers can be viewed here: https:\/\/youtu.be\/XNxHq_asxXg.\u00a0 Tank adapters for 2.5 gallon containers should be available from dealers and\/or manufacturers?????\u00a0 In my opinion, this headache will likely push more growers to bulk handling systems.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>3) EPA-Approved Paraquat Training Information:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.epa.gov\/pesticide-worker-safety\/paraquat-dichloride-training-certified-applicators\">https:\/\/www.epa.gov\/pesticide-worker-safety\/paraquat-dichloride-training-certified-applicators<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dr. Eric Prostko, UGA Weed Scientist, has made a few comments about the recent rule changes for the purchase, handling and application of paraquat.
