Today, I noticed in a couple of fields that leaves of squash and zucchini plants look distorted.\u00a0 As you can see in the pictures below, the leaves look curled and crumpled.\u00a0These are\u00a0symptoms of a white-fly transmitted virus known as Cucurbit leaf crumple virus <\/i>(CuLCrV).\u00a0 The symptoms of an infected yellow straightneck squash are slightly different from zucchini plants. The fruit from an infected\u00a0yellow straightneck squash can exhibit green streaks.This virus is transmitted by adult whitefly feeding\u00a0on an\u00a0infected plant.<\/p>\n

We are likely seeing\u00a0CuLCrV in our cucurbit crops due to the very high whitefly populations\u00a0this fall.\u00a0 To manage this virus we must manage the whiteflies on the plants.<\/p>\n
