This past year, we had an opportunity to conduct three irrigated peanut variety trials in Colquitt County. Peanut variety trials were planted in Hartsfield, at Moss Family Farms, and at the Sunbelt Ag Expo. Eight varieties were evaluated at the Hartsfield location, and each variety was replicated 4 times. Three varieties were planted at Expo, and four varieties were planted at the Moss location, and each variety was replicated three times at these locations. All plot locations were planted with twin row planters, and Thimet insecticide was applied at planting. Plots were rated for leaf spot utilizing the Florida Leaf Spot Scale. The Florida 1–10 leaf spot scale is a rating system (1=no spot, 10=complete defoliation) used to assess early and late leaf spot severity, primarily in peanut crops.TSWV was evaluated by looking for hits per 100 feet of row. Peanut yield was adjusted to 7% moisture. Plots were harvested with grower pickers and weighed with UGA nut buggy or using pad scales.
Hartsfield location: Plant date – May 23, 2025. Dig date- Oct 13, 2025. Harvest Date- Oct 21, 2025. Plots ranged from 400 to 590 feet long. Location had 3 straight years of peanuts. No significant differences in yield and % TSWV among all varieties.

Expo location: Planting date – May 14, 2025. Dig date- Oct 3, 2025. Harvest Date- Oct 13, 2025. No significant differences in yield and leaf spot ratings among all varieties.

Moss location: Plant date – May 21, 2025. Dig date- Oct 21, 2025. Harvest Date- Oct 25, 2025.No significant differences in % TSWV among all varieties.

The project would not be possible without the help of the Sunbelt Ag Expo, Whit Benton, Moss Family Farms, Farmers Gin and Peanut and Doerun Peanut. If you have any questions please contact you local county Extension agent.
