News, events, and happenings in Colquitt County agriculture.

According to UGA production budgets, fungicides account for about 15% of the variable costs of irrigated peanut production.  Fungicide selection in peanut production can influence the bottom line.

A peanut fungicide demonstration was conducted with the help of the Sunbelt Ag Expo in the summer of 2020. Fungicide treatments were determined by using Peanut RX. The Peanut Disease Risk Index, developed by researchers and Extension specialists at the University of Georgia, the University of Florida, and Auburn University, is officially known as “PEANUT Rx”. It allows growers to assess their risk to tomato spotted wilt, leaf spot diseases and white mold. Once risk is determined then fungicide programs can be selected. The 2021 Peanut RX can be obtain here…. Fungicide treatments were replicated 3 times. Each plot was 18 rows wide and approximately 900 feet long. The table below contains the treatments for this field demonstration.

Dr. Bob Kemerait, UGA Plant Pathologist, rated demonstration plots for leaf spot control on September 21. The plot was dug and rated for white mold control on September 22. The plot was harvested and weighed on October 2, 2020. Disease ratings and yield data from this demonstration is reported below.
