{"id":9192,"date":"2016-11-18T10:54:19","date_gmt":"2016-11-18T15:54:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/climate\/?p=9192"},"modified":"2016-11-18T11:54:21","modified_gmt":"2016-11-18T16:54:21","slug":"what-does-the-current-la-nina-mean-for-spring-frost","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/climate\/2016\/11\/what-does-the-current-la-nina-mean-for-spring-frost\/","title":{"rendered":"What does the current La Ni\u00f1a mean for spring frost?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I read a <a href=\"https:\/\/growinggeorgia.com\/news\/2016\/11\/crop-insurance-deadline-nears-apples-blueberries-and-peaches\/?utm_source=Growing+Georgia&amp;utm_campaign=916fbe1bcc-growinggeorgia-daily_newsletter&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_term=0_4643f190f7-916fbe1bcc-296638373\">story<\/a> this morning in <em>Growing Georgia<\/em> reminding producers that the deadline for purchasing crop insurance for fruit is coming on November 20. \u00a0I thought I would take a minute to discuss what the current weak La Ni\u00f1a means for spring frost.<\/p>\n<p>In general, neither El Ni\u00f1o nor La Ni\u00f1a are particularly indicative of late frost in the spring. \u00a0However, this year&#8217;s event is weak and La Ni\u00f1a may be functionally over by spring.
