{"id":8149,"date":"2016-08-28T21:41:29","date_gmt":"2016-08-29T01:41:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/climate\/?p=8149"},"modified":"2016-08-28T21:48:14","modified_gmt":"2016-08-29T01:48:14","slug":"eleven-years-since-hurricane-katrinas-dire-forecast","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/climate\/2016\/08\/eleven-years-since-hurricane-katrinas-dire-forecast\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;Eleven years since Hurricane Katrina&#8217;s dire forecast&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Harrison Sincavage posted an article at <em>iWeatherNet<\/em> today about the shocking (to me and other meteorologist friends) statement\u00a0that the National Hurricane Center put out about the expected impacts of Hurricane Katrina, which was approaching maximum storm intensity in the Gulf of Mexico on this date eleven years ago today. \u00a0If you&#8217;ve never read the warning, you can see it at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.iweathernet.com\/tropical\/eleven-years-since-hurricane-katrinas-dire-forecast\">https:\/\/www.iweathernet.com\/tropical\/eleven-years-since-hurricane-katrinas-dire-forecast<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Katrina forecast was amazingly good so far in advance, which as we know from this week looking at the spaghetti mess of forecast maps for Investigation 99L (now Tropical Depression 9 as of 5 pm) is not always so easy to do.
