{"id":8091,"date":"2016-08-23T23:06:18","date_gmt":"2016-08-24T03:06:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/climate\/?p=8091"},"modified":"2016-08-23T23:06:18","modified_gmt":"2016-08-24T03:06:18","slug":"could-peanuts-fuel-navy-ships-in-the-future","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/climate\/2016\/08\/could-peanuts-fuel-navy-ships-in-the-future\/","title":{"rendered":"Could peanuts fuel Navy ships in the future?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Brad Haire in the <em>Southeast Farm Press<\/em> noted today that the US Navy is considering adopting peanuts as an alternative energy fuel in the near future. \u00a0They are mandated to provide at least 50 percent of their energy consumption from alternative fuels by 2020.<\/p>\n<p>Peanut oil is a good fuel for transportation but is currently too expensive to compete with cheap petroleum fuels now.
