{"id":7571,"date":"2016-06-30T11:00:04","date_gmt":"2016-06-30T15:00:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/climate\/?p=7571"},"modified":"2016-06-30T11:00:04","modified_gmt":"2016-06-30T15:00:04","slug":"extreme-drought-returns-to-the-southeast","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/climate\/2016\/06\/extreme-drought-returns-to-the-southeast\/","title":{"rendered":"Extreme drought returns to the Southeast"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The latest Drought Monitor is out, and it is not good news for the Southeast. \u00a0Extreme drought has been reintroduced to Georgia for the first time since February 2013. \u00a0A small area of northeast Alabama is also in extreme drought.<\/p>\n<p>The good news is that rainier weather returned to parts of the Southeast this week; at my house in southeast Athens I&#8217;ve received over 4 inches in the past few days, one of the higher amounts in the state. \u00a0The rain may keep the drought from expanding\u00a0on\u00a0next week&#8217;s map.
