{"id":6911,"date":"2016-05-01T23:02:23","date_gmt":"2016-05-02T03:02:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/climate\/?p=6911"},"modified":"2016-05-01T23:07:21","modified_gmt":"2016-05-02T03:07:21","slug":"japanese-priests-collected-almost-seven-centuries-of-climate-data","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/climate\/2016\/05\/japanese-priests-collected-almost-seven-centuries-of-climate-data\/","title":{"rendered":"Japanese Priests Collected Almost Seven Centuries of Climate Data"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Smithsonian<\/em> had an interesting article this week on a long-term source of proxy climate data that was collected by Japanese priests monitoring the ice conditions on Lake Suwa. \u00a0As the lake froze each year, the priests recorded the time of development and the orientation of a ridge of ice that built up as the lake froze.
