this &#8220;The Year without a Winter?&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>NOAA released their\u00a0winter climate statistics yesterday. \u00a0They showed that for the lower 48 states, this past December through February was the warmest since records began in 1895. \u00a0The exceptionally warm December really boosted the temperatures this season. \u00a0It was Alaska&#8217;s second warmest winter, with averages more than 10 degrees above normal. \u00a0You can read more about the numbers at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncdc.noaa.gov\/sotc\/\" target=\"_blank\">https:\/\/www.ncdc.noaa.gov\/sotc\/<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Jason Samenow of the <em>Capital Weather Gang<\/em> wrote an associated blog <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/news\/capital-weather-gang\/wp\/2016\/03\/08\/americas-year-without-a-winter-the-2015-2016-season-was-the-warmest-on-record\/\" target=\"_blank\">article<\/a> describing this as the year without a winter&#8221;.\u00a0 Even though Washington DC had snow this year, the incredibly warm December really pushed the winter to a new level of warmth.<\/p>\n<p>One of the consequences of the warm weather, especially in the northern states, is the earliest ever maple syrup production\u00a0in Minnesota.\u00a0 Paul Ruttner of <em>Minnesota Public Radio<\/em> describes
