A \u00a0blizzard that hit parts of Texas late in 2015 has caused significant losses to the dairy industry, including the loss of 40,000 dairy cattle, according to an article<\/a> in AgWeb<\/em> on December 31. \u00a0In addition to the deaths of many cattle in the frigid and stormy conditions, hundreds of\u00a0truckloads of milk had to be dumped because tankers could not get to the farms to pick up the milk.<\/p>\n

Cattle that were not milked during the storm also have started to dry up and will produce less milk in the next few months, further reducing yields and profits. \u00a0You can read more about this at CNN Money<\/em> here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

So many cattle wandered off during the storm that farmers have turned to Facebook to help round up the lost herds, according to a story<\/a> on Beef Today <\/em>in Ag Web.<\/em> \u00a0According to the story,\u00a0New Mexico dairy farmer\u00a0Andle van der Ploeg says the drifts were so high at his dairy that the heifers just walked out of their pens.<\/p>\n
