number of tropical cyclones in 2015"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>You probably could not guess it from our quiet Atlantic tropical season, but 2015 has already experienced a record number of tropical storms this year.\u00a0 According to Minnesota Public Radio\u00a0meteorologist Paul Huttner in this blog <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.mprnews.org\/updraft\/2015\/10\/tropics-gone-wild-record-tropical-cyclone-numbers-in-2015\/\" target=\"_blank\">post<\/a>, this year has set new records in both number and intensity of the storms, based on extremely active Pacific Ocean.\u00a0 By October 18, the number of category 4 or 5 storms was up to 20.<\/p>\n<p>In a related <a href=\"https:\/\/wxshift.com\/news\/the-northern-hemisphere-just-set-a-cyclone-record?utm_content=buffer7ec4f&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_source=facebook.com&amp;utm_campaign=buffer\" target=\"_blank\">article<\/a> Brian Kahn of <em>WxShift<\/em> discussed the impacts of the strong El Ni\u00f1o and its warm water on hurricane development in both the eastern and western Pacific Oceans.\u00a0 In an <a href=\"https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/climate\/2015\/10\/ex-hurricane-oho-going-where-few-hurricanes-have-gone-before-alaska\/\" target=\"_blank\">article<\/a> earlier this month I also discussed the number of storms entering high latitudes due to warm waters in the North Pacific.<\/p>\n<p>Brian points out that we still have two months left in this year&#8217;s tropical season before we close the books.\u00a0 That gives us a long time to continue past the old record set in 2004.<\/p>\n<p><a
