{"id":4675,"date":"2015-10-08T22:21:27","date_gmt":"2015-10-09T02:21:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/climate\/?p=4675"},"modified":"2015-10-08T22:22:12","modified_gmt":"2015-10-09T02:22:12","slug":"new-features-from-the-midwestern-regional-climate-center","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/climate\/2015\/10\/new-features-from-the-midwestern-regional-climate-center\/","title":{"rendered":"New products from the Midwestern Regional Climate Center"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In my series on sources of climate data I mentioned the regional climate centers as a great source of information both for specific regions and for national perspectives.\u00a0 The Midwestern Regional Climate Center has a couple of new products that you might be interested in.<\/p>\n<p>One feature that has many national aspects is their new El Ni\u00f1o page.\u00a0 This page provides information on what El Ni\u00f1o is, what the current status is, and what impacts to expect (mainly in the Midwest).\u00a0 There is also an interactive GIS-based\u00a0national map that shows how this year&#8217;s climate relates to that in previous El Ni\u00f1o years.\u00a0 You can\u00a0visit the page at\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/mcc.sws.uiuc.edu\/mw_climate\/elNino\/index.jsp\" target=\"_blank\">https:\/\/mcc.sws.uiuc.edu\/mw_climate\/elNino\/index.jsp.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Their cli-MATE website also has a new set of interpolated maps which can be used to display past weather across the US.\u00a0 Remember, you have to sign up for a free account on cli-MATE, but once you are in, there is\u00a0a wealth of information there, including the ability to search for number of days above or below certain thresholds, creating thermographs, and lots of historical data.\u00a0 The map below shows the precipitation for the Southeast since the beginning of the month.\u00a0 Since it is interpolated from station data, it will look a bit different than radar-derived maps, but still shows the overall pattern very well.<\/p>\n<p>You can access all these tools (and get a weather almanac for your smartphone too) at <a href=\"https:\/\/mrcc.isws.illinois.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\">https:\/\/mrcc.isws.illinois.edu\/<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/climate\/files\/2015\/10\/oct-1-8-from-cliMATE.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-4676\" src=\"https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/climate\/files\/2015\/10\/oct-1-8-from-cliMATE-208x300.png\" alt=\"oct 1-8 from cliMATE\" width=\"208\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/climate\/files\/2015\/10\/oct-1-8-from-cliMATE-208x300.png 208w, https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/climate\/files\/2015\/10\/oct-1-8-from-cliMATE-96x138.png 96w, https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/climate\/files\/2015\/10\/oct-1-8-from-cliMATE.png 462w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 208px) 100vw, 208px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In my series on sources of climate data I mentioned the regional climate centers as a great source of information both for specific regions and for national perspectives.\u00a0 The Midwestern Regional Climate Center has a couple of new products that you might be interested in.
