eye around so prepare for the worst and hope for the best.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/climate\/files\/2015\/10\/rainfall-update-10-2-2015.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-4601\" src=\"https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/climate\/files\/2015\/10\/rainfall-update-10-2-2015-300x225.png\" alt=\"rainfall update 10-2-2015\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/climate\/files\/2015\/10\/rainfall-update-10-2-2015-300x225.png 300w, https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/climate\/files\/2015\/10\/rainfall-update-10-2-2015-184x138.png 184w, https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/climate\/files\/2015\/10\/rainfall-update-10-2-2015.png 960w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The flow into the region of maximum rainfall has been described by Dr. Marshall Shepherd of UGA as an &#8220;atmospheric river&#8221;.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve talked about them in this blog before but in the context of heavy rain in California and the West Coast, not in discussing weather in the Southeast.\u00a0 You can read his discussion at Forbes <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/marshallshepherd\/2015\/10\/02\/what-is-an-atmospheric-river-and-why-is-this-relevant-to-joaquin-and-weekend-rainfall\/\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The pattern of inflow is also discussed in the CIMSS Satellite blog from the University of Wisconsin <a href=\"https:\/\/cimss.ssec.wisc.edu\/goes\/blog\/archives\/19675\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>\u00a0with some good satellite imagery.\u00a0 The Weather Underground talks about how this could be a &#8220;1000 year storm&#8221; for some locations and provides an update on Joaquin\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wunderground.com\/blog\/JeffMasters\/comment.html?entrynum=3137&amp;cm_ven=tw-jm\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>As in my earlier posts, drive carefully and &#8220;turn around, don&#8217;t drown&#8221;
