{"id":4561,"date":"2015-09-30T12:03:39","date_gmt":"2015-09-30T16:03:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/climate\/?p=4561"},"modified":"2015-09-30T12:03:39","modified_gmt":"2015-09-30T16:03:39","slug":"light-pollution-and-its-influence-on-health","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/climate\/2015\/09\/light-pollution-and-its-influence-on-health\/","title":{"rendered":"Light pollution and its influence on health"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Another great map I found this week describes the spatial pattern of light pollution across the US (there are also maps for other countries available online). \u00a0This map was described in an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theweek.com\/articles\/579064\/losing-sight-stars\" target=\"_blank\">article<\/a> in <em>The Week<\/em> magazine. \u00a0The US map below shows the amount of light pollution across the US. \u00a0The areas in green are the limit of where the Milky Way can be seen. \u00a0While a lot of the Southeast is affected by light pollution, there are still some areas where skies are dark enough to view the spectacular Milky Way, although the West is much better due to drier conditions and less cloud cover as well as less cities. \u00a0The second image shows the change in light pollution over time. \u00a0If current trends continue, we will no longer be able to see the Milky Way in most of the eastern half of the country by 2025.<\/p>\n<p>What impact does the light have on our health?
