anniversary of the Galveston hurricane"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Today marks the 115th anniversary of the Galveston hurricane that is estimated to have killed over 10,000 people when the city of Galveston TX was hit by a storm surge of over 15 feet. \u00a0This story was memorialized in the fantastic book, &#8220;Isaac&#8217;s Storm&#8221;. \u00a0If you have never read it and you like to read target=\"_blank\">https:\/\/www.1900storm.com\/isaaccline\/isaacsstorm.html<\/a>. \u00a0The Galveston storm remains the worst natural disaster ever to strike the U.S., its death toll eclipsing the combined carnage of the Johnstown Flood of 1889 and the San Francisco Earthquake of 1906.<\/p>\n<p>Even though the storm went right over Cuba, US forecasters did not believe their reports and predicted it would travel up the East Coast of the US, even while it was already in the Gulf of Mexico.<\/p>\n<p>There are many sources of information on this storm, including <a
