{"id":4289,"date":"2015-09-04T11:52:46","date_gmt":"2015-09-04T15:52:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/climate\/?p=4289"},"modified":"2015-09-04T11:52:46","modified_gmt":"2015-09-04T15:52:46","slug":"when-does-fall-color-reach-its-peak","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/climate\/2015\/09\/when-does-fall-color-reach-its-peak\/","title":{"rendered":"When does fall color reach its peak?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Now that it is September, people are starting to think about fall.\u00a0 I frequently get asked when the peak color is going to occur.\u00a0 Of course, conditions vary from year to year depending on the climate conditions each year, but there are a few sites that have really useful information to address this question.<\/p>\n<p>The Southern Regional Climate Center shared a great website on their Facebook page today which shows the progression of color across the US.\u00a0 It is described at <a href=\"https:\/\/mashable.com\/2015\/08\/31\/fall-foliage-map-2015\/#:eyJzIjoidCIsImkiOiJfYjlzaDBrNml0ajg5bjEzeCJ9\" target=\"_blank\">https:\/\/mashable.com\/2015\/08\/31\/fall-foliage-map-2015\/#:eyJzIjoidCIsImkiOiJfYjlzaDBrNml0ajg5bjEzeCJ9<\/a>.\u00a0 For the Southeast, the peak color depends on both latitude and elevation, with the higher elevations reaching peak color first.\u00a0 In the example below, peak color in northern Georgia occurs in late October on average.<\/p>\n<p>If you want to follow the actual color changes this year, I use <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foliagenetwork.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">https:\/\/www.foliagenetwork.com\/<\/a>.\u00a0 Unfortunately, it does not extend all the way through the Southeast, but if you are looking to head north to see some color, it gives you a great idea of what is happening this year.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m up in Michigan this weekend, and the first few trees are starting to change color.\u00a0 So even though it is going to be unusually warm here for the next few days, fall is not far away!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/climate\/files\/2015\/09\/fall-colors.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-4290\" src=\"https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/climate\/files\/2015\/09\/fall-colors-300x180.png\" alt=\"fall colors\" width=\"375\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/climate\/files\/2015\/09\/fall-colors-300x180.png 300w, https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/climate\/files\/2015\/09\/fall-colors-230x138.png 230w, https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/climate\/files\/2015\/09\/fall-colors.png 667w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 375px) 100vw, 375px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Now that it is September, people are starting to think about fall.\u00a0 I frequently get asked when the peak color is going to occur.\u00a0 Of course, conditions vary from year to year depending on the climate conditions each year, but there are a few sites that have really useful information to address this question.
