The NC CRONOS\/ECONet Database, developed by the State Climate Office of North Carolina, enables the public to quickly and easily retrieve archived observations from 35,433<\/b> (13,127 active) weather sites and 14,502<\/b> water sites in and around North Carolina. \u00a0CRONOS stands for Climate Retrieval and Observations Network of the Southeast database, and there are many additional stations are available outside of North Carolina\u00a0from National Weather Service and other sites. \u00a0Both hourly and daily observations are available in an interactive map format, including observations from the North Carolina mesonet, ECONet. \u00a0You can also add radar overlays for current weather.<\/p>\n

The sample map shown below has the heat index\/apparent temperature across the Southeast at 11 pm on Saturday night (with some mighty impressive numbers for so late in the day). \u00a0You can see the large number of stations that have hourly data available. \u00a0If you click on the station icon on the map, you get access to a way to download hourly data for the station you selected.<\/p>\n

CRONOS is a fantastic source of weather and climate data for the Southeast, and I hope you will take some time to visit and see what the database can do for you.<\/p>\n
