{"id":3383,"date":"2015-06-09T14:07:59","date_gmt":"2015-06-09T18:07:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/climate\/?p=3383"},"modified":"2015-06-09T14:07:59","modified_gmt":"2015-06-09T18:07:59","slug":"volcanic-sunsets-visible-in-southern-hemisphere","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/climate\/2015\/06\/volcanic-sunsets-visible-in-southern-hemisphere\/","title":{"rendered":"Volcanic sunsets visible in Southern Hemisphere"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On April 22, 2015, Calbuco Volcano erupted in Chile. \u00a0I discussed it in my blog <a href=\"https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/climate\/2015\/04\/what-does-the-latest-volcanic-eruption-mean-for-global-climate\/\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>. \u00a0Now one of the lovely results of this eruption is a series of volcanic sunrises and sunsets in Africa and other Southern Hemisphere locations as the high level aerosol layer reflects sunlight back when the sun is just below the horizon.<\/p>\n<p>EarthSky has an <a href=\"https:\/\/earthsky.org\/todays-image\/reflections-of-volcanic-sunset-in-africa?utm_source=EarthSky+News&amp;utm_campaign=449b436620-EarthSky_News&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_term=0_c643945d79-449b436620-393619445\" target=\"_blank\">article<\/a> today about some of the beautiful sunsets that observers have seen lately. \u00a0I remember watching similar sunsets in 1992 and 1993 after Mount Pinatubo erupted in the Philippines.<\/p>\n<p>Other volcanic eruptions have contributed to famous paintings in the past. \u00a0J. M. W.
