This year, the heavy rains that have been occurring over the Corn Belt have caused problems for pollination there.  In particular, wet conditions at the time that the corn pollen sacks are opening can lead to overly tight wraps on the tassels, resulting in poor pollination and subsequent yield loss. Notice the ear tip contains whitish colored kernels versus the yellow kernels in the body of the ear.
