The latest monthly and seasonal climate summary for the United States for August and Summer 2024 was released by NOAA earlier this week. It showed that while August was not a lot above normal in most of the United States, it was very warm in the Southwest, and overall the summer (June through August) was one of the warmest on record. The year to date is well above normal everywhere in the United States as far as temperature goes. For precipitation, in the Southeast August was dominated by the effects of Hurricane Debby, and areas along Debby’s path were very wet while other areas were drier than normal and were developing drought conditions. For the year to date, the Southeast is running just a little above normal due to the combination of wet and dry months that have affected us over the year.
