The summer solstice is the date on which the sun appears to be highest in the sky. This means the longest day of the year and then the slow decrease of day length through the fall equinox and then into the dark winter. Enjoy it while you can! The summer solstice marks the beginning of astronomical summer, although climatologists mark summer as beginning on June.
