Sam Ingram of the Effingham County Extension News reports that last week’s dry weather was good enough for farmers in his county to plant corn. \u00a0Because of the warm conditions and adequate moisture, the corn is really popping up. \u00a0You can see some pictures and read his blog at\u00a0https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/effingham\/2015\/04\/corn-is-popping-up\/<\/a><\/p>\n

A bit farther afield, AgWeb<\/em> reports that drought has adversely impacted winter wheat in Kansas. \u00a0You can read the article here<\/a>. \u00a0The National Ag Statistics Service reported the 28 percent of the wheat was in poor to very poor condition, with 44 percent listed as fair. \u00a0In NOAA’s morning climate webinar this morning they noted that much of the primary winter wheat production area is in drought. \u00a0The drought outlook shows that there may be some improvement in drought conditions in Kansas in the coming months, but it is not known how these conditions will affect final wheat yields.<\/p>\n
