The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.popsci.com\/technology\/wildfire-warning-system-for-cars\/\">Federal Emergency Management Agency<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.popsci.com\/technology\/fcc-voter-suppression-robocall\/\">Federal Communications Commission<\/a>\u00a0are scheduled to test their National Wireless Emergency Alert System at that time. The run-through will actually consist of two parts, the\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fema.gov\/emergency-alert-system\" target=\"_blank\">Emergency Alert System<\/a>\u00a0(EAS) and the\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fema.gov\/emergency-managers\/practitioners\/integrated-public-alert-warning-system\/public\/wireless-emergency-alerts\" target=\"_blank\">Wireless Emergency Alerts<\/a>\u00a0(WEA). The former will transmit to radios and TVs, while the latter will issue to all consumer cell phones, according to\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fema.gov\/press-release\/20230803\/fema-and-fcc-plan-nationwide-emergency-alert-test-oct-4-2023\" target=\"_blank\">FEMA\u2019s announcement<\/a>\u00a0earlier this month. It won&#8217;t be a big deal but it&#8217;s important to test it so that they know it will work in the case of a real emergency, weather or otherwise.
