You can read more about what that means from the Weather Channel here. This means we have a long way to go before we are safe from the potential impacts of another hurricane. Tonight, there are two active hurricanes in the Atlanta: Hurricane Lee, which has regained major hurricane status after faltering for a while and is now headed for Nova Scotia or somewhere in New England, and Hurricane Katia, which is a “fish” storm out in the Atlantic that is not expected to affect land. There are two additional areas that that National Hurricane Center is watching, including Investigation 98, that has a 70% chance of becoming a named storm (most likely Nigel) in the next week. It’s a long ways out from us in the Southeast, so we can watch it for ten days or more before there is any concern at all, and it may never be a threat to us. But there is still plenty of time for another storm to hit somewhere in the Southeast, so you need to continue to be prepared.

Yesterday, September 10, was the climatological midpoint of the Atlantic tropical season.
