{"id":2563,"date":"2015-04-06T11:50:54","date_gmt":"2015-04-06T15:50:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/climate\/?p=2563"},"modified":"2015-04-06T11:52:48","modified_gmt":"2015-04-06T15:52:48","slug":"groundwater-woes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/climate\/2015\/04\/groundwater-woes\/","title":{"rendered":"Groundwater woes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve seen a couple of interesting stories on groundwater today that I thought I would pass along. \u00a0One is on the continuing crisis in the groundwater levels in California due to a combination of drought and extensive pumping, mostly by agricultural producers. \u00a0You can read that story from the New York Times <a title=\"NYT on CA groundwater woes\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2015\/04\/06\/science\/beneath-california-crops-groundwater-crisis-grows.html?hp&amp;action=click&amp;pgtype=Homepage&amp;module=first-column-region&amp;region=top-news&amp;WT.nav=top-news&amp;_r=0\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>. \u00a0The story discusses changes that land surfaces and water tables have seen in response to the groundwater use and points out that future agricultural production in California depends on their willingness to monitor and protect their valuable groundwater resources for use in future droughts.<\/p>\n<p>A separate <a title=\"Maps of Ogallala Aquifer in N.
