{"id":24364,"date":"2022-07-28T07:46:28","date_gmt":"2022-07-28T11:46:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/climate\/?p=24364"},"modified":"2022-07-28T07:46:30","modified_gmt":"2022-07-28T11:46:30","slug":"happy-25th-anniversary-to-cocorahs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/climate\/2022\/07\/happy-25th-anniversary-to-cocorahs\/","title":{"rendered":"Happy 25th anniversary to CoCoRaHS!"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Today is the 25th anniversary of the infamous Fort Collins flash flood, which was the impetus for starting <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cocorahs.org\/\">CoCoRaHS<\/a> (Community Collaborative Rain, Hail &amp; Snow Network).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fort Collins has a semi-arid climate, but rare tropical downpours lingered over the city during the beginning of the annual monsoon season, bringing nearly 15&#8243; of rain in just over a day (including a period of 10&#8243; in 5 hours). The average *annual* rainfall is ~16&#8243;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can help monitor rainfall in your local community by joining <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cocorahs.org\/\">CoCoRaHS<\/a> and adding to the pool of precipitation observations across the US, Canada, and the Bahamas! If you are already an observer, thank you!
