We observe\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/asteroidday.org\/news-updates\/asteroid-day-live-2021-programme-airs-30-june\/\" target=\"_blank\">Asteroid Day<\/a>\u00a0each year on June 30, on the anniversary of what\u2019s now known as the\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/journal\/icarus\/vol\/327\/suppl\/C\" target=\"_blank\">Tunguska explosion<\/a>. This explosion flattened roughly 80 million trees over an area of 830 square miles in a remote part of Siberia. It was so remote that it took scientists almost ten years to visit the site.
