For the past three decades, Alabama, Florida and Georgia have been battling over control of water resources in what has become known as the “tri-state water wars.” I have written about this topic in past blog posts. In recent years, Georgia has been working hard to improve its tracking of water usage, since in past comments from the courts they have pointed out that Georgia’s tracking was woefully inadequate. A recent article from the UGA Newswire describes some of the things that our extension folk are doing to improve water use efficiency, including the development of smart irrigation apps that allow farmers to determine just how much water they need to add to crops to ensure no yield losses.
