The word is constructed from <a title=\"Greek language\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Greek_language\">Greek<\/a>, <i>petra<\/i>, meaning \u2018stone\u2019 + <i><a title=\"Ichor\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ichor\">ichor<\/a><\/i>, the fluid that flows in the veins of the gods in Greek mythology. The term was coined in 1964 by two <a title=\"Australia\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Australia\">Australian<\/a> researchers, I. J. Bear and R. G.
