{"id":1557,"date":"2014-12-14T21:37:36","date_gmt":"2014-12-15T02:37:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/climate\/?p=1557"},"modified":"2014-12-14T21:38:40","modified_gmt":"2014-12-15T02:38:40","slug":"the-rest-of-the-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/climate\/2014\/12\/the-rest-of-the-year\/","title":{"rendered":"The rest of the year"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>With only two weeks to go in the year, it is worth taking a first look at how the year is likely to end up. \u00a0The maps below show the temperature and precipitation departures for the year to date. \u00a0These maps are from the High Plains Regional Climate Center and you can update them at\u00a0<a title=\"HPRCC climate maps\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hprcc.unl.edu\/maps\/current\/\" target=\"_blank\">https:\/\/www.hprcc.unl.edu\/maps\/current\/<\/a>. \u00a0The maps show that for most of the Southeast, the annual temperature should end up a little more than 1 degree below the 1981-2010 normal. \u00a0This will be colder than last year and most likely the coldest since 1996. \u00a0Precipitation varied quite a bit across the region. \u00a0For example, in Georgia the northern 2\/3 of the state was four to five inches below the 1981-2010 average while the southern third of the state was three to four inches above normal. \u00a0For the entire state and year, Georgia is likely to be a bit on the dry side but the two halves of the state will counteract each other to some extent. \u00a0It&#8217;s worth noting that by comparison to other parts of the country, the Southeast has been relatively close to normal, both in temperature and precipitation.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/climate\/files\/2014\/12\/ytd-temp-dep-2014.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-1558\" src=\"https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/climate\/files\/2014\/12\/ytd-temp-dep-2014-300x231.png\" alt=\"ytd temp dep 2014\" width=\"355\" height=\"273\" srcset=\"https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/climate\/files\/2014\/12\/ytd-temp-dep-2014-300x231.png 300w, https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/climate\/files\/2014\/12\/ytd-temp-dep-2014-178x138.png 178w, https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/climate\/files\/2014\/12\/ytd-temp-dep-2014.png 688w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 355px) 100vw, 355px\" \/><\/a>\u00a0\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/climate\/files\/2014\/12\/ytd-precip-dep-2014.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-1559\" src=\"https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/climate\/files\/2014\/12\/ytd-precip-dep-2014-300x231.png\" alt=\"ytd precip dep 2014\" width=\"357\" height=\"275\" srcset=\"https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/climate\/files\/2014\/12\/ytd-precip-dep-2014-300x231.png 300w, https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/climate\/files\/2014\/12\/ytd-precip-dep-2014-178x138.png 178w, https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/climate\/files\/2014\/12\/ytd-precip-dep-2014.png 688w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 357px) 100vw, 357px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>For the rest of the year, weather conditions in the Southeast are likely to be wet but do not lean either warm or cold (maps at <a title=\"Climate Prediction Center\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cpc.noaa.gov\" target=\"_blank\">www.cpc.noaa.gov<\/a>). \u00a0We do have some indication that there may be a couple of large storms moving through the country that may cause problems for travelers, although it is not clear how much they will affect the Southeast. \u00a0If you have travel plans for the coming weeks, you will want to follow the weather predictions closely.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>With only two weeks to go in the year, it is worth taking a first look at how the year is likely to end up. \u00a0The maps below show the temperature and precipitation departures for the year to date. \u00a0These maps are from the High Plains Regional Climate Center and you can update them at\u00a0https:\/\/www.hprcc.unl.edu\/maps\/current\/.
