{"id":11760,"date":"2017-07-15T08:50:30","date_gmt":"2017-07-15T12:50:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/climate\/?p=11760"},"modified":"2017-07-15T08:50:30","modified_gmt":"2017-07-15T12:50:30","slug":"whats-a-green-flash","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/climate\/2017\/07\/whats-a-green-flash\/","title":{"rendered":"What&#8217;s a green flash?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Those of you who like weather pictures and knowing about unusual weather phenomena probably already know what a &#8220;green flash&#8221; is, but for those who don&#8217;t, a green flash is an optical phenomenon that occurs at sunset when the setting sun may momentarily look green due to the refraction of the sun&#8217;s disk by the atmosphere.\u00a0 It happens only in very specific atmospheric conditions so is very rare.\u00a0 EarthSky has a good description and some fantastic pictures of green flashes in their blog post <a href=\"https:\/\/earthsky.org\/earth\/can-i-see-a-green-flash?utm_source=EarthSky+News&amp;utm_campaign=999b72fa51-EarthSky_News&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_term=0_c643945d79-999b72fa51-393619445&amp;mc_cid=999b72fa51&amp;mc_eid=b22da16cce\">here<\/a>.
