{"id":10960,"date":"2017-05-01T16:13:49","date_gmt":"2017-05-01T20:13:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/climate\/?p=10960"},"modified":"2017-05-01T16:13:49","modified_gmt":"2017-05-01T20:13:49","slug":"species-on-the-move-having-a-big-impact","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/climate\/2017\/05\/species-on-the-move-having-a-big-impact\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;Species on the move having a big impact&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <em>Florida Climate Institute<\/em> noted in their newsletter today that a recent article published in <em>Science<\/em> shows how much land and ocean species are moving away from the equator due to a warming climate. \u00a0The summary paper is based on a February 2016 conference on &#8220;Species on the Move&#8221; which gathered about 350 international scientists who are specialists in migration of species. \u00a0According to a related article in Phys.org, &#8220;land-based species are moving towards the poles by 17 kilometres per decade, and marine species by 72 kilometres per decade, on average.
