{"id":10337,"date":"2017-03-10T16:29:59","date_gmt":"2017-03-10T21:29:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/climate\/?p=10337"},"modified":"2017-03-10T16:29:59","modified_gmt":"2017-03-10T21:29:59","slug":"western-wildfires-cause-loss-of-life-to-ranchers-and-livestock","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/site.extension.uga.edu\/climate\/2017\/03\/western-wildfires-cause-loss-of-life-to-ranchers-and-livestock\/","title":{"rendered":"Western wildfires cause loss of life to ranchers and livestock"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A number of wildfires in Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas have caused significant loss of livestock as well as killing several ranchers in Texas, according to reports in <em>Drovers Newsletter<\/em> this week. \u00a0According to <em>Reuters<\/em>, &#8220;fast-moving wildfires that burned through nearly 2 million acres (809,380 hectares) of Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas this week have devastated ranches and left thousands of cattle and other livestock dead, officials said on Thursday.&#8221; \u00a0Many of the grass fires grew rapidly on Monday due to dry weather and parched prairie land in the Texas Panhandle, north and western Oklahoma and southern Kansas.
